Healing trauma holistically requires a deep understanding of the relationships between your physical, emotional, spiritual and energetic selves.
Cultures around the world have long practiced healing techniques that center on the flow of life force, based on the premise that all human beings are made up of energy. At The Sanctuary, we apply this healing wisdom to effectively treat trauma and PTSD. Energy medicine practices can help you release deeply held trauma and bring your mind, body, and soul back to a state of balance.
What is Energy Medicine?
The relationship between the physical self, the emotional self and the energetic body is an intricate one. Energy exists on a spectrum, and we may not have the tools available to measure all of the energy that affects us. Energy medicine encompasses a series of therapies based on the idea that the disruption of this subtle energy can cause imbalances within the physical and emotional bodies that must be resolved before true healing can take place.
Various cultures around the world have developed healing systems designed to support the mind-body energy connection. The understanding of energy is foundational to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Ayurvedic medicine, and a number of other traditional disciplines. A fundamental belief within TCM is that all of our organs are connected to specific meridian points, and that if the energy flow through a certain meridian point is disrupted, the function of that organ will be, too.
Energy flow affects us physically, emotionally and spiritually: when it’s off-balance, we feel off-balance too. Furthermore, energy medicine tells us that our thoughts, emotions and physical responses are all expressions of energy. In order to recover from trauma, we have to find the underlying causes affecting our energy, treat them, and restore our balance and flow.
How Does Energy Medicine Work?
There are a number of different energy medicine practices in use today, many of which are based on traditional Eastern therapeutic practices.
Reiki is a one such therapy that was developed in Japan almost a century ago, and is now used around the world. A reiki practitioner works to unblock energy and restore balance and flow using a light touch of the hand either on or slightly above the body. Reiki can help to heal deep wounds, release emotional blockages and resolve spiritual distress associated with trauma.
Healing Touch Therapy does not involve physical touch, but rather involves the therapist positioning their hands above certain parts of the body and applying energy vibrations based on your needs. This helps to correct blocked or disrupted energy and heal symptoms of persistent trauma, anxiety or emotional distress. Healing Touch Therapists are trained to be able to connect deeply with their clients’ energies.
